Neal Boortz: Good Bye To An Old Friend

with one comment

June 3, 2012 – According to WSB radio.com: Tomorrow WSB’s syndicated radio talk show host Neal Boortz will announce his retirement. Neal will be passing the torch to his friend and former presidential candidate, Mr Herman Cain.

I first met Neal several years ago before he became syndicated. It was shortly after he became an attorney here in Atlanta. I was in need of a good lawyer to aid me in a contract dispute and Neal was the one guy who came to my aid and took care of business for me. He was as great an attorney as he is a talk show host. I’ve been a long time listener to his show and like many of his followers, Neal is like family to us.

One of my best memories of the Neal Boortz show was the famous “Cat Chase” event he held back when he was with WGST radio in Atlanta, who he refers to as “the ex wife.” Unless you were among the lucky ones, you missed radio broadcasting history that day. Good times with the Talk Master.

Neal’s last day hosting The Neal Boortz Show, will be January 18, 2013. He began his career with WSB in 1993 and now airs on more than 200 radio stations with over six million weekly listeners.

“It’s time for me and my wife, Donna, to hit the road and travel in ways that we have not been able to through most of our 42 years together,” said Boortz – also known as “The Talkmaster” and “The High Priest of the Church of the Painful Truth.”

“As my listeners know, we love traveling, and the restraints created by my daily radio show commitment have kept us on a rather short leash.  At present, our post-show travel plans extend through most of 2013 and well into 2014 ranging from Florida to Alaska and Antarctica. We will then figure out where to go from there. Believe me, this wasn’t a decision I made lightly.  I love this business and everything it has afforded me.  I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to be doing my talk show for 42 years.  I’ll certainly miss the listeners and callers; but most of all I’ll miss my radio family, executive producer Belinda Skelton and researcher Cristina Gonzalez.  If, in your own travels, you pass us in the BoortzBus on some highway, be sure to wave.”

In a recent Tweet Neal told me he had purchased his 30 year dream, a Prego Millineum tour bus. It’s something he had talked about wanting over the past few years. It all makes perfect sense now. He always said he wanted to get a tour bus and just travel the country with his “Queen,” wife Donna. And now it sounds like his dream is coming true.

My wife Lindsay and I wish you and Donna the very best my friend, and thank you so much for all those wonderful years of radio. We hope you keep us all up to date on whats going on. You will be truly missed. -JRoycroft
