Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 Plan: In A Nutshell, Well Sorta

August 27, 2012 – A friend said I need to write a serious blog. As if none of my blogs are serious? So, here ya go Josh-

As I understand, Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 plan is a precursor to the FairTax plan.  Cain’s plan begins with PHASE ONE then PHASE TWO where the FairTax comes into play.

Cain’s plan is called “9-9-9″ because it would replace today’s complicated and economically burdensome federal tax code with a simple, three-part system, consisting of a 9% flat tax on individuals, a 9% flat tax on businesses, and a 9% national retail sales tax.

PHASE ONE:

Establishes the three areas of taxation.

Business Flat Tax = 9%

  • Gross income less all purchases from other U.S. located businesses, all capital investment, and net exports.
  • Empowerment Zones will offer deductions for the payroll of those employed in the zone

Individual Flat Tax = 9%

  • Gross income less charitable deductions.
  • Empowerment Zones will offer additional deductions for those living and/or working in the zone.

National Sales Tax = 9%

  • Unlike a state sales tax, which is an add-on tax that increases the price of goods and services, this is a replacement tax. Everything you currently purchase contains an embedded tax. It’s the combined taxes that everyone paid to produce the item and to get it on the shelf. It replaces taxes that are already embedded in selling prices. In other words, if you buy a widget that costs $100.00, that price includes all the imbedded taxes it took to get that widget on the store shelf, which is about 23%. Those imbedded taxes will be replaced by the lower tax rate. By replacing higher marginal rates in the production process with lower marginal rates, marginal production costs actually decline, which will lead to prices being the same or lower, not higher.

PHASE TWO:

The process of educating the American people on the benefits of continuing the next step to the Fair Tax.

  • Ultimately replaces individual and corporate income taxes
  • Ends the IRS as we know it and repeals the 16th Amendment

From Herman Cain’s site:

9-9-9 Plan: Summary
  • Removes all payroll taxes and unites all tax payers
  • Provides the least incentive to evade taxes and the fewest opportunities to do so
  • Lifts a $430 billion dead-weight burden on the economy due to compliance, enforcement, collection, etc…
  • Is fair, simple, efficient, neutral, and transparent
  • Ends nearly all deductions and special interest favors
  • Features zero tax on capital gains and repatriated profits
  • Exports leave our shores without the Business Tax or the Sales Tax embedded in their cost, making them world class competitive. Imports are subject to the same taxation as domestically produced goods, leveling the playing field.
  • Lowest marginal rates on production
  • Kills the Death Tax
  • Allows immediate expensing of business investments
  • Eliminates double taxation of dividends
  • Increases capital formation which aids capital availability for small businesses
  • Increased capital per worker drives productivity and wage growth
  • Features a platform to launch properly structured Empowerment Zones to renew our inner cities
  • The pro-growth, pro-job, pro-export economic policies of the 9-9-9 PLAN equals a strong dollar policy

For more information I encourage everyone to go to Herman Cain’s site to get all the fine details. It’s really not very complicated.

For information about the FairTax, may I highly suggest you purchase this book, “The Truth: Answering The Critics”

And in case you aren’t familiar with Paul Ryan’s tax reform plan, Click HERE.

Hope this gives you some insight and understanding on the plans that are floating around out there. No matter what, we need desperately to change our form of taxation. We cannot continue down this path of punishing the very people who built this country and keeps her strong.

What sense does it make to increase corporate tax rates? What happens when corporations are forced to pay higher taxes? They freaking ship their work to China because it costs less to produce their widgets there. Why the hell am I, as a business owner, going to pay $10 to produce each widget when I can get the same quality item made for $3 out of country?  Why not decrease my tax rate so I can stay here, make more money, hire more people? It’s why folks are in business, to make money and create jobs. Want those jobs to come back to America? Lower the corporate tax rates. It’s a no brainer people! You don’t have to be an economic genius to understand that. One thing you can be sure of, China is loving and reaping the rewards of our taxing American producers to death.

As responsible freedom and liberty loving American producers, it is YOUR responsibility as citizens to educate yourselves in our economic system. Until you understand our system, you are powerless to change things for the better. What you do not know benefits government. The more you know, the less power government will have over your life and your future.

Empower yourself with knowledge.  An educated voter is a very dangerous thing to send to the ballot box. It’s dangerous to the politicians who rely on your ignorance to keep them in power, and to keep you under their control. Take charge of your own destiny and secure your children’s future. Without you, they have no hope for survival.

Use wisely your power of choice at the ballot box in November. -JRoycroft

Neal Boortz: Good Bye To An Old Friend

with one comment

June 3, 2012 – According to WSB radio.com: Tomorrow WSB’s syndicated radio talk show host Neal Boortz will announce his retirement. Neal will be passing the torch to his friend and former presidential candidate, Mr Herman Cain.

I first met Neal several years ago before he became syndicated. It was shortly after he became an attorney here in Atlanta. I was in need of a good lawyer to aid me in a contract dispute and Neal was the one guy who came to my aid and took care of business for me. He was as great an attorney as he is a talk show host. I’ve been a long time listener to his show and like many of his followers, Neal is like family to us.

One of my best memories of the Neal Boortz show was the famous “Cat Chase” event he held back when he was with WGST radio in Atlanta, who he refers to as “the ex wife.” Unless you were among the lucky ones, you missed radio broadcasting history that day. Good times with the Talk Master.

Neal’s last day hosting The Neal Boortz Show, will be January 18, 2013. He began his career with WSB in 1993 and now airs on more than 200 radio stations with over six million weekly listeners.

“It’s time for me and my wife, Donna, to hit the road and travel in ways that we have not been able to through most of our 42 years together,” said Boortz – also known as “The Talkmaster” and “The High Priest of the Church of the Painful Truth.”

“As my listeners know, we love traveling, and the restraints created by my daily radio show commitment have kept us on a rather short leash.  At present, our post-show travel plans extend through most of 2013 and well into 2014 ranging from Florida to Alaska and Antarctica. We will then figure out where to go from there. Believe me, this wasn’t a decision I made lightly.  I love this business and everything it has afforded me.  I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to be doing my talk show for 42 years.  I’ll certainly miss the listeners and callers; but most of all I’ll miss my radio family, executive producer Belinda Skelton and researcher Cristina Gonzalez.  If, in your own travels, you pass us in the BoortzBus on some highway, be sure to wave.”

In a recent Tweet Neal told me he had purchased his 30 year dream, a Prego Millineum tour bus. It’s something he had talked about wanting over the past few years. It all makes perfect sense now. He always said he wanted to get a tour bus and just travel the country with his “Queen,” wife Donna. And now it sounds like his dream is coming true.

My wife Lindsay and I wish you and Donna the very best my friend, and thank you so much for all those wonderful years of radio. We hope you keep us all up to date on whats going on. You will be truly missed. -JRoycroft

The Herman Cain Affair As Only Anne Coulter Could Tell It.

with 2 comments

This one is from Anne Coulter. Enjoy.

ONCE YOU GO CONSERVATIVE BLACK, YOU BETTER WATCH YOUR BACK

November 30, 2011

With the mainstream media giddily reporting on an alleged affair involving Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, how long can it be before they break the news that their 2004 vice presidential candidate conceived a “love child” with his mistress, Rielle Hunter?

The left is trying to destroy Cain with a miasma of hazy accusations leveled by three troubled women. Considered individually, the accusations are utterly unbelievable. They are even less credible taken together. This is how liberals destroy a man, out of nothing.

After the first round of baseless accusations against Cain, an endless stream of pundits rolled out the cliche — as if it were the height of originality — “This isn’t he said-she said; it’s he-said, she-said, she-said, she-said, she–said.”

Au contraire: We had two “shes” and only one “said.”

Remember? Only two women were willing to give their names. And as soon as they did, we discovered that they were highly suspicious accusers with nothing more than their personal honor to support the allegations. Only one of the two would even say what Cain allegedly did.

The first one was Sharon Bialek, who claimed that Cain grabbed her crotch in a car.

Then we found out Bialek was in constant financial trouble, had been involved in a paternity lawsuit, was known as a “gold digger,” had a string of debts and had twice filed for personal bankruptcy. Also, she admitted she knew Obama’s dirty tricks specialist, David Axelrod, from living in the same building with him.

Her personal history is relevant because she produced no evidence. We had to take her word. (Which was not helped by seeing her standing with Gloria Allred.)

The second one, Karen Kraushaar, made unspecified allegations of a “hostile environment” when she was working for Cain, but refuses to say what those allegations were. This despite the fact that the National Restaurant Association waived her confidentiality agreement, thus allowing her to go public.

That’s one “she,” but no “said.”

Cain said he had once told Kraushaar she was as tall as his wife — which would be one of the more worthy sexual harassment claims settled by an American company in recent years.

Why won’t she say? We’re not talking about rape. Kraushaar can’t say, “I don’t want to relive being told I was the same height as his wife!” With all the nonsense that passes for a “hostile environment,” either Kraushaar tells us what Cain allegedly did, or her blind accusation is worth less than nothing.

As if that weren’t enough, then it turned out that Kraushaar had also filed a complaint at her next job just three years later, charging that a manager had circulated a sexually explicit joke email comparing computers to men and women. She demanded a raise and the right to work at home.

Maybe Kraushaar is the most unlucky woman in the world. But the simpler explanation is that she is not a credible witness on the workplace atmosphere.

And now we have Ginger White stepping forward to claim that she had a 13-year affair with Cain. Cain admits he was friends with White, but he categorically, adamantly denies having an affair with her.

White has the whole combo-platter of questionable accuser attributes: She’s another financially troubled, twice-divorced, unemployed single mother, who has claimed sexual harassment in the past, declared bankruptcy once, was accused of stalking and had a libel judgment entered against her just this year. So far in 2011, she’s had nine liens put on her property.

But we’re supposed to ignore all of that because she’s the third woman of questionable character to make an implausible allegation. Liberals say there’s a pattern, but the only pattern is of their making far-fetched accusations of a sexual nature against Cain.

White’s proof that she had a 13-year affair is that she has two of Cain’s books signed by him — one with the incriminating inscription, “Friends are forever! Everything else is a bonus,” and the other, “Miss G, you have already made a ‘big difference!’ Stay focused as you pursue your next destination.” (I know — filthy!)

If that’s proof of an affair, I’ve had thousands of them without even realizing it.

Also, White produced evidence that Cain had texted or called her cell phone 61 times during four non-consecutive months — but did not reveal what those texts said. (“Would you please return my lawn mower?”)

Again, if that’s proof of an affair, I’m having hundreds of them at this very moment.

This is the sort of evidence you get with an actual sexual predator: Bill Clinton’s accusers had gifts, taped phone conversations with him and a semen-stained dress.

Gennifer Flowers produced taped telephone calls with Clinton totaling thousands of words between them, with him counseling her on how to deny their affair: “If they ever hit you with it, just say no, and go on. There’s nothing they can do … But when they — if somebody contacts you, I need to know … All you got to do is deny it.”

Paula Jones had multiple same-day witnesses — including the state troopers who worked for Clinton and had already told the press about a “Paula” they brought to Clinton’s hotel room. And that was for a single incident.

Monica Lewinsky had lots of gifts from Clinton, including a hat pin, two brooches, a marble bear figurine, a T-shirt from Martha’s Vineyard and Walt Whitman’s “Leaves of Grass,” all of which she mysteriously placed with Clinton’s secretary, Betty Currie, during the investigation, as well as a semen-stained dress, which Monica kept.

Ginger White claims she had a 13-year affair with Cain — and all she has are two books with inscriptions that could have been written to an auto mechanic who waited in line at a Cain book signing. Even her business partner during the alleged affair says White never mentioned Cain’s name.

These women are like triple-A ball players with the stats being: number of bankruptcies, smallest bank account, number of liens, most false claims, number of children out of wedlock, degrees of separation from David Axelrod, total trips to human resources and so on.

That wouldn’t be dispositive — except for the fact that their only evidence is their word.

But this is how liberals dirty you up when they’ve got nothing: They launch a series of false accusations, knowing that Americans with busy lives won’t follow each story to the end and notice that they were all blind alleys.

The liberal media is an old story, but it’s still a big story when it comes to creating the impression of scandal out of thin air.

Most people say, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” I say, “Where there’s smoke around a conservative, there are journalists furiously rubbing two sticks together.”

Herman Cain: Our Country Needed Him

leave a comment »

November 29, 2011 - I feel terrible for Cain’s family and all that they have been put through. Whether any of the stories are true or not, it does not matter now. He cannot possibly win the nomination with this recent story of an affair. Regardless of how many skeletons Ginger White has in her closet, she has put the nail in Cain’s coffin.

In my opinion, Herman Cain should have dumped his advisers after the first round of accusations of sexual misconduct and found someone who could manage his campaign properly. His decision to keep his handlers was a serious mistake on his part. I understand him wanting to be surrounded by people he called friends, but this was a mistake. A very serious mistake.

Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, John Kennedy, each had dirty laundry either before, during, or after their presidency, yet it didn’t seem to matter. They all survived the minimal media scrutiny. Especially John Kennedy with his White House affairs that most everyone in DC knew about. Funny how times have changed.

Today we have a black man as President who has failed miserably. A man who bows to our enemies and apologizes for our countries greatness. A man who hates the idea of capitalism and individual thinkers. A man who’s hopes and dreams for change have amounted to turning the United States of America into a nation that would be unrecognizable to those who fought and died to create the Republic for which we stand for. A man who never held a leadership position before in his life, yet managed to get elected by those who saw false hopes and dreams in someone who had promised them everything. Obama, a man who promised to spread the rich mans wealth around to those less fortunate because he says it is the fair thing to do. Look around at what he has achieved and ask yourself was it really worth it? Was it worth choosing a man based on the color of his skin but not the content of his character or ability to lead the greatest nation on earth?

Is it so bad that Herman Cain, a successful businessman with a solid record for success, happens to be black? Isn’t that the real issue here? How dare a conservative black man compete with a liberal black man for the office of President. How dare Herman Cain challenge the great Barack Hussein Obama.

Herman Cain isn’t perfect, and most certainly not Obama. This recent news event charging Herman Cain with adultery should not be a major issue. This is a story that should have been handled within his family, not in the open media. Sure we want a leader that is bullet proof and has sunshine beaming from his ass, but guess what people…Ain’t gonna happen. Name one candidate, one individual that ever sat in the White House that fits your criteria for sainthood. You can’t.

What this country needs right now more than anything is a great leader and problem solver. That person has very likely been taken out of the race. Herman Cain will become material for Saturday Night Live skits and trashed by liberal media programs.

You people better hope like hell that Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney can pull an Ace out of their Conservative hats come November 2012 or we’ll all be singing the socialist blues as our Republic is systematically broken down with a hammer and sickle. -JRoycroft

Herman Cain’s Latest Accuser May Be The Most Dangerous

with one comment

Ginger White

November 29, 2011 - Here we go again. Herman Cain is back in the spotlight with a woman claiming that she and Cain have been having an affair for the past 13 years.

Of course Herman Cain denies this allegation stating that he was just helping out someone he thought was just a friend who had fallen on hard financial times.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, FOX 5 senior I-Team reporter Dale Russell sat down with Ginger White, Cains newest headache saying she had a story to tell.  Read the original breaking story here

Prior to Dale Russell’s interview, FOX 5 did a background check on Ginger White and found some interesting facts about her:

In 2001 Ms White had filed a sexual harassment claim against an employer. That case was settled.

They also discovered a bankruptcy filing nearly 23 years ago in Kentucky.

In DeKalb County Georgia a number of eviction notices against her over the past six years. The most recent happened this month.

Here’s the real kicker – They also found a lawsuit filed by a former business partner, Kimberly Vay, who once sought a “stalking temporary protective order” against Ms. White for “repeated e-mails/texts threatening lawsuit and defamation of character.” The case was dismissed; but was followed by a libel lawsuit against Ms. White. A judge entered an order in favor of Kimberly Vay because Ms. White failed to respond to the lawsuit.

Late this afternoon, Cain’s attorney, Lin Wood, sent FOX 5 the following statement:

“Mr. Cain has been informed today that your television station plans to broadcast a story this evening in which a female will make an accusation that she engaged in a 13-year long physical relationship with Mr. Cain. This is not an accusation of harassment in the workplace – this is not an accusation of an assault – which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate.

Rather, this appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults – a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life. The public’s right to know and the media’s right to report has boundaries and most certainly those boundaries end outside of one’s bedroom door.

Mr. Cain has alerted his wife to this new accusation and discussed it with her. He has no obligation to discuss these types of accusations publicly with the media and he will not do so even if his principled position is viewed unfavorably by members of the media.”

This may be the most dangerous woman in Cain’s life right now. Ms. White says she has been unemployed, and she is a single mom with two kids struggling to make ends meet. This woman carries all the baggage you would expect from a desperate, money hungry leach and will likely go to extremes to take down Herman Cain. This one is going all out because she has nothing to lose. I believe this will be the end for Herman Cain.

The price you pay for wanting to be the President of the United States … Tell me, is it really worth it? – JRoycroft

Obama Makes Herman Cain Sound Like An English Major

November 15,2011 - The media jumped on Herman Cain’s recent “brain freeze” when asked a question about Libya during an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Herman Cain Will Not Be Stopped By Gold Digging Liars

with 2 comments

November 10, 2011 - After all these years, isn’t it funny how all of a sudden four pissed off women decide now is the time to attack Herman Cain.  Out of all the years and places that Herman Cain ran, owned and worked for, not once, until now, has anyone said anything negative about this man. Yet each one of these women decide to join the Democrat smear campaign after he becomes a threat to Obama. And isn’t it funny that each of them were from The National Restaurant Association?

Mr Cain isn’t going anywhere but up. No one, absolutely no one is going to stop Mr Cain from trying to achieve his ultimate goal. Especially not a bunch of lying, gold digging bitches. – JRoycroft

DAVID AXELROD’S PATTERN OF SEXUAL MISBEHAVIOR – by Ann Coulter

November 9, 2011

Herman Cain has spent his life living and working all over the country — Indiana, Georgia, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, Washington, D.C. — but never in Chicago.

So it’s curious that all the sexual harassment allegations against Cain emanate from Chicago: home of the Daley machine and Obama consigliere David Axelrod.

Suspicions had already fallen on Sheila O’Grady, who is close with David Axelrod and went straight from being former Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley’s chief of staff to president of the Illinois Restaurant Association (IRA), as being the person who dug up Herman Cain’s personnel records from the National Restaurant Association (NRA).

The Daley-controlled IRA works hand-in-glove with the NRA. And strangely enough, Cain’s short, three-year tenure at the NRA is evidently the only period in his decades-long career during which he’s alleged to have been a sexual predator.

After O’Grady’s name surfaced in connection with the miraculous appearance of Cain’s personnel files from the NRA, she issued a Clintonesque denial of any involvement in producing them — by vigorously denying that she knew Cain when he was at the NRA. (Duh.)

And now, after a week of conservative eye-rolling over unspecified, anonymous accusations against Cain, we’ve suddenly got very specific sexual assault allegations from an all-new accuser out of … Chicago.

Herman Cain has never lived in Chicago. But you know who has? David Axelrod! And guess who lived in Axelrod’s very building? Right again: Cain’s latest accuser, Sharon Bialek.

Bialek’s accusations were certainly specific. But they also demonstrated why anonymous accusations are worthless.

Within 24 hours of Bialek’s press conference, friends and acquaintances of hers stepped forward to say that she’s a “gold-digger,” that she was constantly in financial trouble — having filed for personal bankruptcy twice — and, of course, that she had lived in Axelrod’s apartment building at 505 North Lake Shore Drive, where, she admits, she knew the man The New York Times calls Obama’s “hired muscle.”

Throw in some federal tax evasion, and she’s Obama’s next Cabinet pick.

The reason all this is relevant is that both Axelrod and Daley have a history of smearing political opponents by digging up claims of sexual misconduct against them.

John Brooks, Chicago’s former fire commissioner, filed a lawsuit against Daley six months ago claiming Daley threatened to smear him with sexual harassment accusations if Brooks didn’t resign. He resigned — and the sexual harassment allegations were later found to be completely false.

Meanwhile, as extensively detailed in my book “Guilty: Liberal ‘Victims’ and Their Assault on America,” the only reason Obama became a U.S. senator — allowing him to run for president — is that David Axelrod pulled sealed divorce records out of a hat, first, against Obama’s Democratic primary opponent, and then against Obama’s Republican opponent.

One month before the 2004 Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate, Obama was way down in the polls, about to lose to Blair Hull, a multimillionaire securities trader.

But then The Chicago Tribune — where Axelrod used to work — began publishing claims that Hull’s second ex-wife, Brenda Sexton, had sought an order of protection against him during their 1998 divorce proceedings.

From then until Election Day, Hull was embroiled in fighting the allegation that he was a “wife beater.” He and his ex-wife eventually agreed to release their sealed divorce records. His first ex-wife, daughters and nanny defended him at a press conference, swearing he was never violent. During a Democratic debate, Hull was forced to explain that his wife kicked him and he had merely kicked her back.

Hull’s substantial lead just a month before the primary collapsed with the nonstop media attention to his divorce records. Obama sailed to the front of the pack and won the primary. Hull finished third with 10 percent of the vote.

Luckily for Axelrod, Obama’s opponent in the general election had also been divorced.

The Republican nominee was Jack Ryan, a graduate of Dartmouth and Harvard law and business schools, who had left his lucrative partnership at Goldman Sachs to teach at an inner-city school on the South Side of Chicago.

But in a child custody dispute some years earlier, Ryan’s ex-wife, Hollywood sex kitten Jeri Lynn Ryan, had alleged that, while the couple was married, Jack had taken her to swingers clubs in Paris and New York.

Jack Ryan adamantly denied the allegations. In the interest of protecting their son, he also requested that the records be put permanently under seal.

Axelrod’s courthouse moles obtained the “sealed” records and, in no time, they were in the hands of every political operative in Chicago. Knowing perfectly well what was in the records, Chicago Tribune attorneys flew to California and requested that the court officially “unseal” them — over the objections of both Jack and Jeri Ryan.

Your honor, who knows what could be in these records!

A California judge ordered them unsealed, which allowed newspapers to publish the salacious allegations, and four days later, Ryan dropped out of the race under pressure from idiot Republicans (who should be tracked down and shot).

With a last-minute replacement of Alan Keyes as Obama’s Republican opponent, Obama was able to set an all-time record in an Illinois Senate election, winning with a 43 percent margin.

And that’s how Obama became a senator four years after losing a congressional race to Bobby Rush. (In a disastrous turn of events, Rush was not divorced.)

Axelrod destroyed the only two men who stood between Obama and the Senate with illicitly obtained, lurid allegations from their pasts.

In 2007, long after Obama was safely ensconced in the U.S. Senate, The New York Times reported: “The Tribune reporter who wrote the original piece (on Hull’s sealed divorce records) later acknowledged in print that the Obama camp had ‘worked aggressively behind the scenes’ to push the story.”

Some had suggested, the Times article continued, that Axelrod had “an even more significant role — that he leaked the initial story.”

This time, Obama’s little helpers have not only thrown a bomb into the Republican primary, but are hoping to destroy the man who deprives the Democrats of their only argument in 2012: If you oppose Obama, you must be a racist.

Former NPR Board Chairman Says Herman Cain Victim Of Hatchet Job

leave a comment »

November 3, 2011 - By David Martosko – The Daily Caller Published: 6:33 PM 11/03/2011 | Updated: 8:20 PM 11/03/2011

In an interview with The Daily Caller, former National Restaurant Association board chairman Joseph Fassler offered a firm defense of GOP presidential front-runner Herman Cain, along with an explanation for how Washington’s best kept secret — the identities of Cain’s sexual-harassment accusers — was also kept from the association’s board.

“The accusations? It’s a hatchet job, in my opinion,” Fassler told TheDC from his Phoenix, Ariz. office. “My gut tells me it’s a hatchet job. He gets a lead, he gets some traction, and the next thing you know, here come these allegations. It’s sad.”

Fassler said his four years in leadership positions on the association’s board — including one year as chairman and another as past chairman — overlapped with two and one-half years of Cain’s time as CEO. Fassler was first elected to the board in 1984, and was chairman in 1997.

While he said he had no reason to doubt the accuracy of reports that the restaurant trade group made five-figure payments to employees then embroiled in what is now a campaign scandal, Fassler said he was never informed about those payments while on the board.

Politico reported late Thursday that one of Cain’s accusers, then a 30-year-old female government-affairs staffer, reported an allegation of sexual harassment to an NRA board member within hours of what she said was an improper sexual overture.

Fassler’s account, however, either questions the accuracy of this account or suggests a communications failure among board members.

He told TheDC that he “never heard anything about Herman that would suggest he had those sort of allegations lodged against him. He was a professional. Thoroughly professional.”

Severance agreements, he said, were — and remain — “common” in human resource management. “You offer people severance agreements, unless they are for cause, all the time,” he said.

At the National Restaurant Association, Fassler explained, complaints about workplace behavior were referred to the human resources department. “Then HR would bring it to the legal department. If it was about someone in a particular job, I imagine the complaint would have gone to his boss.”

The board of directors is the CEO’s “boss,” of course.

Asked why no complaint about Herman Cain ever reached the board, Fassler put the episode in perspective, essentially seeing the amount of money involved as small-potatoes.

“This agreement? If it was of a major magnitude, I would have been shocked to not have known about it. So my takeaway was that it must not have been of a major magnitude,” he told TheDC.

Fassler drew a clear distinction between legal settlements for significant amounts of money and routine severance packages that would normally be handled far beneath the board’s level of responsibility.

“At the association, people had a level of authority — an amount of money that they can spend before they have to bring it to the board [for approval],” he explained. “In this case, if it was over their authority level — and I don’t remember what that level was — they would have to bring it to the executive committee [of the board].

“If it’s a routine matter, they don’t have to bring it to us. We never got it, so it was a routine matter.”

Fassler’s memories of Cain, he said, were all positive. He called the GOP front-runner a smart businessman, and said that even 15 years ago, the Georgia pizza mogul had a grasp of government policy and routine that was stronger than most of his peers.

“Herman, during those days, did a very good job of getting our message heard on the Hill,” Fassler said.

“He’s a very expressive communicator, very affable. People enjoy listening to his speeches. He’s very entertaining, and in my mind a very factual-oriented person.”
