There Will Be Another Aurora
July 21, 2012 – How many more Aurora events will we watch unfold in the media during our lifetime?
Politicians will eventually use the Colorado massacre in their campaigns as will the gun control freaks and most certainly the Obama folks.
What happened in Colorado, like so many other similar horrible events will quickly fade into history only to be remembered in some documentary or a “This day in history” moment on some news program.
What happened in Aurora Colorado was a terrible tragedy, but more so, it was an extreme act of terrorism by a young white man who, for whatever crazed reason decided to plan a precision assault in a movie theater where innocent people were going to die that night.
There will be countless programs analyzing, dissecting, and commenting on why, what, and how someone could commit such a monstrous act of violence. Some will try to connect the dots so that they lead to a certain political or religious group. Others will say he had a bad childhood or will just try to excuse away his actions.
The cold hard truth in life is there are some very bad people out there who, for whatever their reasons will do this again and again and there is nothing anyone of us can do to prepare for, or predict their acts of violence.
Like it or not our world is full of potential mass murderers waiting for their moment to act. We have countless unsolved murders nationwide that have most likely been committed by serial killers who may never be caught. Your best friend or family member could very possibly be one of those people. You may never know.
While reading some of the many reports of the massacre I came across some photographs that just broke my heart. I won’t publish them, but they are out there. One is a photo of Mr Tom Sullivan walking around with a picture of his son Alex who was in the theater that night. He’s asking media and the police if they have seen him. Later, there is another photo of Mr Sullivan who has just been told that his son is among the dead victims. It was his sons 27th birthday. Out of all the many heart breaking photographs, that is the one I’ll not soon forget.
One thing we know about our society is there are people out there that are just bad, and there is absolutely nothing you, me, law enforcement or the government can do to protect you from them. Like it or not, welcome to the real world.
Pray for the victims of our most recent domestic terrorist attack. -JRoycroft
